Running Injury Treatment and Analysis

Orthotics

Orthotics are specialized inserts for your shoes that help normalize movement and relieve pain. When your feet don’t contact the ground properly, you may experience pain anywhere in the kinetic chain (foot, ankle, knee, hip or low back). During an evaluation we assess your feet and how they affect the rest of your kinetic chain. If custom orthotics are indicated, we make a perfect mold of your feet and order your personalized orthotics. Additionally, we will discuss proper shoe/sneaker wear with you and instruct you in exercises to correct any muscle imbalances that have developed over time. At The Edge Physical Therapy there are Physical Therapists who are specifically trained in custom orthotic fabrication.

Running Injury Treatment and Analysis

The Edge Physical Therapy offers running analysis and has therapists trained to perform detailed evaluations of flexibility, strength and power as they pertain to runners. Often very simple exercises or alterations to running technique can get people back to running quickly.

Common running injuries include shin splints, ITBand syndrome, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures and muscle strains. When not addressed properly, running form can worsen and lead to more serious injuries. Our Physical Therapists are trained to evaluate for these injuries and more. Improper training or footwear can be responsible for some of these injuries, so therapists provide advice for proper shoes that match the individual. Treatments can include pain relieving modalities, stretching, strengthening and advanced running specific exercises. Therapists also provide advice to alter technique and training schedules to minimize risk of future injury.
